New android zero-day exploiting targets pixels, samsung, etc.

Hey! Welcome to my blog. If you don’t know What Google Zero-Day is, then let me tell you - Zero-Day is a research team that finds vulnerabilities in the android system. This new vulnerability was found by a company called the NSO Group which is based in Israel. This company is known for finding exploits.

Let me explain this in short...
The vulnerability takes place only when the user installs a malicious app from an unknown source. This installation can lead the attacker to gain access to the device root directory (i.e, the main folder of the Android system). In simple words, it's like gaining administrator rights to your mobile. Google discovered this flaw in Android’s Kernel. This has affected Pixel phones as well.

According to the resources the affected devices are:

  • Pixel
  • Pixel XL
  • Pixel 2
  • Pixel 2 XL
  • Huawei P20
  • Redmi 5A
  • Redmi Note 5
  • Mi A1
  • Oppo A3
  • Moto Z3
  • Oreo LG phones
  • Samsung Galaxy S7
  • Samsung Galaxy S8
  • Samsung Galaxy S9

Google says that they have informed their android partners and has also made the patch available for Android Common kernel. Pixel and Pixel 2 users can get the patch in the October System Update. The Pixel 3 series are not vulnerable to this exploit.

Note: Avoid Installing from Third-Party and unknown sources. Upgrade your Pixel phone as soon as the System Update comes. Hope OEM(Original Equipment Manufacturer) will release the update for the other affected devices soon. Fingers Crossed!
